A massive fire broke out near Dubai International Airport early Monday after a suspected drone strike hit a fuel storage tank close to the airport, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
According to officials, the drone incident occurred in the vicinity of the airport and damaged a fuel tank, triggering a large blaze and thick plumes of smoke that were visible from several parts of Dubai. Emergency teams from the Dubai Civil Defence rushed to the spot and worked swiftly to bring the flames under control.
Authorities confirmed that flight operations were temporarily halted as a precaution to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff while firefighters managed the situation. Several aircraft were forced to circle in nearby airspace until clearance was given.
Officials later stated that the fire was successfully contained and no injuries were reported. Emergency response teams secured the area while investigators began examining the cause of the drone strike.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, where drone and missile attacks have targeted infrastructure across Gulf countries following the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Airports, oil facilities, and other key installations in the region have been on high alert due to the escalating situation.
Videos circulating on social media showed towering flames and thick black smoke rising near the airport complex, sparking widespread concern among residents and travellers. Authorities urged the public to rely on official updates and advised passengers to check with airlines for the latest information regarding their flights.
Airport authorities later indicated that operations would gradually resume once safety inspections were completed, though delays and disruptions were expected throughout the day.
