According to Minneapolis police, officers were called to the apartment complex shortly after receiving multiple 911 calls about gunfire. Responding officers entered the building within minutes and found several victims. As they searched the property they heard more gunshots from an upper floor and moved toward the source of the disturbance.

According to police officials, officers faced difficult conditions inside the building - haze or smoke-like environment that greatly reduced visibility. Officers worked with colleagues to find victims and neutralize the threat, however.

The shooting took two civilians’ lives at the scene, one dead and one hospitalized. The suspected gunman was also found dead, bringing the total number of deaths to three, including the shooter. Details of how the suspect died are still being worked out.

Three Minneapolis police officers were injured in the incident. Two officers received gunshot wounds as they responded to the active shooting situation and a third officer suffered non-gunshot injuries. All three officers are in stable condition and are expected to recover, medical officials said.

Witnesses described panic and confusion as shots rang out across the apartment building. Residents said multiple rounds were fired and that frightened residents ran to safety. Residents said they knew the suspected shooter as a resident of the building and had been seen carrying a firearm.

The incident triggered a massive law enforcement response by local police, emergency medical personnel and federal officials. Police suggested people get out of the area and officers would secure the building and investigate for any further threats, they said.

Governor Tim Walz condemned the tragedy and pledged to get involved in the investigation. The responding officers were brave and took on a dangerous and fast-moving situation, city officials said, in order to save people and save lives.

We will now try to find out why the shooting happened and reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the violence. Police have not revealed the names of all those victims yet or the suspect.

The Minneapolis apartment shooting again has made gun violence a concern in residential communities in the United States. The incident is still under investigation and residents and officials alike are wondering what did happen and how it could have happened.
