Six people were killed and 26 others injured after a missile strike at an enterprise in Russia’s Kirov region, according to Russian officials. Ukrainian forces were behind it, officials said, and it was one of the most recent cross-border strikes in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Emergency services were immediately deployed to the affected site, and teams of people evacuated the injured, secured the area and assessed the damage. Most victims were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment, and an investigation was launched.

The missiles struck an enterprise in the Kirov region and caused major damage to infrastructure, regional officials said. Videos and images in the meantime showed emergency personnel responding to damaged buildings circulating on the internet, but the true extent of damage has not been officially confirmed.
Six people died in the attack, and 26 others were wounded in varying degrees of severity, Russian officials reported. Medical staff were out on the ground to treat those wounded, and emergency response efforts were underway, they said.
Ukraine has not immediately commented on the strike and the claims made by Russian authorities have not been independently verified.
The incident comes as Russia and Ukraine continue to tighten the lines of contact, and both sides have claimed repeated missile and drone attacks on military and strategic facilities. And as the war has gone on, strikes have continued to surface further out into the border between the countries.
In recent months, both Russia and Ukraine have expanded the use of long-range missiles and unmanned aerial systems, and this has broadened the geographical scope of the conflict. Industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, transportation networks and military sites have been frequently mentioned as targets.
The Kirov region in Western Russia hasn’t been at the center of the conflict as it is for border regions, so the strike is a particularly telling one. Security is stepped up, and the recovery work continues at the site.
The latest attack will only escalate the tension between Moscow and Kyiv as the conflict does not appear to have any signs of dissipating.
International observers continue to monitor developments closely, and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure as required in international humanitarian law.
