Reports Claim Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Hospitalized; Tehran Yet to Confirm Health Rumors

Israeli media outlets have reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has been hospitalised and is in critical condition, heightening speculation on the health and future of the Islamic Republic. The anonymous sources in Iran declare that Khamenei’s health has deteriorated significantly and that he is in a hospital. But Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed this, and no independent verification has been provided.

According to Israel’s Channel 14, sources close to Iran’s political establishment called Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition “extremely serious.” The channel reported on the Iran-based media platform IranWire, which quoted people close to the administration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The reports state that the situation seems to be more grave in recent weeks and political circles are speculating about Khamenei’s health.

Mojtaba Khamenei is often not seen in public since taking over the role of Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (the war that started on 28 February 2026), and has since then been a matter of speculation, with people worrying about his health and security situation as well as doing his work.

Some media outlets and opposition-linked sources have reported that Mojtaba Khamenei suffered serious injuries during a military strike targeting the Supreme Leader’s compound earlier this year. Some have speculated that those injuries may have affected his long-term health. But these claims have not been verified, and Iranian officials have repeatedly said the Supreme Leader is safe and in good health.

However, Iranian authorities have always maintained that Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence from public events is mainly because of security concerns, not medical problems. The government and officials have also said that extraordinary protective measures are in place because of ongoing regional tension and threats against senior Iranian leadership figures.

Furthermore, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently reflected on the difficulty of talking to the Supreme Leader. In an interview with Iranian state media, Pezeshkian said that getting to Khamenei has become “very difficult” in this day and age of communication. Although his comments attracted a lot of international attention, he also appeared to dismiss the problem that the leader is in poor health.

Pezeshkian said that the Supreme Leader still directs the country and that he is a good leader. He said that he had been in several working meetings with Mojtaba Khamenei and that he is confident in his capacity to lead. The president’s remarks were widely interpreted as an attempt to reassure the nation and to fight growing rumours on social media and international news websites.

The latest reports have stirred up high levels of discussion in the Middle East and beyond, and analysts will be watching things in Tehran closely. If the rumours about Mojtaba Khamenei’s health hold, it will be very important for Iran’s political stability and leadership structure. But so far it is not confirmed, and the Supreme Leader’s health is speculation rather than official recognition.
