A devastating flash flood struck Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district near the Tibet border on Wednesday, August 26, killing eight people and leaving hundreds missing.
Among those missing are 105 Indian nationals, according to initial information from Nepalese officials and tourism officials.
The disaster has caused widespread destruction in communities near the Bhote Koshi River, with roads, bridges, settlements, and hydropower infrastructure damaged or washed away by floodwater.
Rescue workers are scrambling to overcome the disaster, and the authorities are still trying to determine the full scale of the destruction.

Flash Flood Triggers Massive Destruction
The flooding hit the Rasuwa area close to the Nepal-China border and affected areas such as Syapru Besi and Timure. An avalanche of ice and rock that caused the surge was also reported, as well as floodwater that raced through river channels and populated areas.
The water’s impact on infrastructure bridges and parts of the roads linking Nepal to the Chinese border hurt critical infrastructure too.
Many hydropower projects were also hit, raising questions about electricity supply and transport connections.

105 Indians Among Missing Travellers

Nepal Tourism Board data cited by local media said 384 travellers were initially reported missing, including foreign tourists and Nepalese nationals.
