The tournament attracted 128 teams in total; many of them were rural youth, so the participation of these teams is only one of the ways in which rural youth are getting more involved in sport at a grassroots level. The event was organised with the purpose that we would encourage and motivate young people to be part of something good for others and for them to play with others and have fun, work hard, and have some sort of good competition.

The sports events organized under Operation Sadbhavana are to strengthen the engagement with local communities in areas where this kind of outreach can have an impact on the Indian Army's relationship with them, in the areas where it is most needed to reach out to the people and to provide the youth with opportunities for them to show their abilities and develop leadership, cooperation, and perseverance in sport.

At Thaloran, the tournament had a lot of young people and teams from the rural areas. About 128 teams participated and it is clear that local youth are interested in organised sports and community events.

Backed by structured sporting opportunities for young people in rural areas, this can also encourage the youth to stay engaged and contribute to the community while having a great experience with other people of different backgrounds.

We have done several community-oriented initiatives such as education, healthcare, sports, and youth engagement. Such programs are for local communities that will help build relations between residents and the armed forces.

The sports tournament also helps us to see how athletics and team sports can come together with our community. Competition needs to be a team effort, so you don’t just have to do it on the field but in the gym and have discipline, which means the people can do so.

The involvement of 26 Rashtriya Rifles in organizing the event allowed the participating youth to meet in the community and to interact with army officers. That engagement can be beneficial for the relationship between residents and security forces and also make them feel more involved in community activities.

The Thaloran tournament has an impressive number of teams, with 128 teams in total, and is one of the grassroots sporting events for the rural youth of Bhalessa. The initiative also gave a platform for young people to showcase their skills with a team, develop confidence, and understand what teamwork is and how to do it.

The event under Operation Sadbhavana is indicative of the Indian Army’s continued commitment to community outreach and youth-oriented activities in Jammu & Kashmir. Encouraging sports at the grassroots level can help to identify talent and develop young people’s physical fitness, discipline, and camaraderie.

The tournament in Bhalessa was therefore also a competition for rural youth, and they shared a common interest in sports and community participation as a result.
