A tragedy has hit Maharashtra’s Thane district and brought to light a 90-year-old man’s death after reportedly leaving his home following an argument with his daughter over food.
It has rocked the hearts and minds of residents of the area and has prompted a police investigation into what happened on the day a man died.
According to police officials, the elderly man, a resident of Thane region, had an argument with his daughter at his home on the day of the incident. Early reports indicate that the dispute was over food. The man left the house after the dispute without telling his family where he was going.
When he went missing for several hours, family members searched for him. When they couldn’t find him they notified the local police who ordered a search into the surrounding area.
We found the body later in a quarry. Police were notified immediately, and officials rushed to the scene and they were able to recover the body. It was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Investigators have not yet established if the death was accidental or suicidal or the result of any foul play. All angles are still being examined and the post-mortem report will be a crucial source of evidence to determine why and how the tragedy occurred,” the official said.
Police have also taken statements from family members, including the daughter, to continue the investigation. Initial investigations have shown that the elderly man was upset after the argument before he left the house, he said.
That’s a tragedy for the elderly people suffering in emotional distress, loneliness and family difficulties. Senior citizens are more likely to need emotional support and empathy because they depend on family members for everyday care and meals, and the rest of us are often aware of this, you know.
Local residents expressed sadness over the incident, and said it was a ghastly tragedy in which to remind families of the importance of compassion and communication. The elderly and mental and emotional health of the elderly community members needs to be better educated, the local community also felt.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and medical and forensic tests are pending. If necessary further legal action may be taken.
The police want the public to be patient and not spread unverified information to the public on social media. The investigation is ongoing and we do not want to give so much information until the post-mortem report and forensic examination are completed.
The 90-year-old man’s tragic death reminds us once again about the emotional distress senior citizens can suffer and why strong family support systems are needed for elder people to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
