The ranking reflects the airline's continuous efforts to enhance operational efficiency, improve network coordination and provide a more reliable travel experience for passengers on both domestic and international routes.

According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, Air India had an 86.85% on-time arrival rate in June alone, with 15,135 flights in the month.

The airline also posted an 86.23% on-time departure rate and a 99.7% completion factor so nearly all scheduled flights were successful despite the challenges of the current airline networks.

Operational Improvements Deliver Results

Air India's improved punctuality is because of several operational changes introduced over the past year as part of its transformation programme.

A hub-and-spoke network through Delhi and Mumbai, the airline manages one of the most complex route systems in the region. Heavy airport congestion, air traffic control restrictions, unpredictable weather and busy international operations all affect flight schedules.

So Air India has been working to address these in-depth operational issues in order to overcome these issues, including:

Better departure planning and gate management. Faster aircraft turnaround times. Greater real-time monitoring of flight operations. Quicker operational decision-making. Stronger coordination between airport, engineering and flight operations teams.

The airline also expanded its contingency planning to better manage weather disruptions, airport congestion, technical problems and airspace restrictions, improving the capacity of any air traffic and reducing delays on its network.

Transformation Extends Beyond Operations

The improvements in punctuality are part of Air India’s ambitious long-term transformation strategy to modernise everything about the airline.

There should be no doubt that in addition to operational upgrades, the carrier also is investing in fleet renewal and digital technology and customer experience.

Air India has placed landmark orders for 600 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, one of the largest aircraft acquisition programmes in aviation history.

With its new fleet of airplanes coming together, the airline is also getting new aircraft. It has received three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in the last 6 months and there are still three Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350-1000s expected to come to the fleet later this year.

Cabin Upgrades Underway

And, in addition to expanding its fleet, Air India is also modernising its existing aircraft through an extensive retrofit programme.

Two refurbished Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners have been returned to commercial service with redesigned cabin interiors while three more aircraft are currently in the United States being refurbished.

The airline expects that by the end of 2026, more than half of its widebody fleet will have redesigned cabins with improved seating, upgraded in-flight entertainment systems and enhanced passenger amenities.

These improvements are going to significantly strengthen the travel experience for Air India’s long-haul international routes and complement the airline’s operational gains.

A Positive Sign for Air India’s Revival.

The global ranking is another step in Air India's transformation programme.

Improved punctuality not only is a factor of customer satisfaction but also a factor of network reliability, reduces operational costs, and connects businesses to customers abroad and back home.

With a modern fleet, upgraded cabins and a much greater focus on operational excellence, Air India is slowly but surely becoming one of the world's largest full-service airlines.
