A young cyclist was riding his bike illegally with the wrong perspective to the north-south streets so in danger of his life and others. Army officers nearby knew of this too and stopped him. The biker received two sharp slaps as a warning. It was filmed around the world and everyone saw that the punishment was appropriate.

Social media responses were mixed but more supported of the Army personnel. People had much to say about the growing problem of wrong‑side driving in India which leads to accidents. Posters at times wrote: "This is real justice here" and “Finally someone taught him a lesson"? Although most others didn’t think physical punishment might be a good option, traffic police must get involved legally to answer these issues.

Wrong‑side driving is a major problem in India. Road safety reports indicate it is one of the major drivers for accidents and deaths. The viral video illustrates a level of anger among citizenry towards vehicles that go where no one can keep (drive) and are putting lives at risk. It also shows the way citizens look to authority figures such as the army and other institutions with enforcement ability as it will be done poorly with an ineffective implementation of public order.

Similar incidents have been reported before where reckless drivers were confronted by police or citizens, for example in Lucknow in 2025 when a police inspector who was driving on the wrong side slapped an army colonel in line after he was protested against in response. That is the way to see all of these cases of anger and frustration as one of the sides of the coin that are being tempered and balanced by the legitimate need for legal procedures.

In the viral video of army men slapping a biker when they see him ride in the wrong lane (no reason of course): a case of what many consider ‘poetic justice’ when looking at it and its aftermath. What many people find to be necessary lessons for reckless drivers to learn and for the authorities to treat it as official business as opposed to a civil error. The incident again fuelled questions about road safety and accountability as well as in a way how enforcement can prevent accidents now.
