A woman wearing a burqa robbed a leading jewelry company in Ayodhya and soon after stole the jewelry from it just as she was about to go into the store in broad daylight. The robbery was executed at Mahesh Jewelers in a busy Kothi Mohalla neighborhood of Rudauli.
The woman, who is in her late 40s, came in the shop at 12:30 PM and she looked like a regular customer looking for gold ornaments, said police officials, who did not like to talk. To keep the shopkeeper calm in her presence, she even asked for water and discussed a few designs.
But when the jeweler put a 26-gram gold necklace and a chain on the counter in front of her, the woman was surprised and suddenly she took a gun (known as a tamancha) from her bag and came to the shop owner, took the jewelry and fled in the direction of the shop. When the woman came out of the shop, an accomplice was waiting a short distance away on a motorcycle.
Within seconds she climbed into the pillion seat of the motorcycle and the two rode off in the narrow, packed market's crowded lanes, evading any attempts at a chase. CCTV footage of the entire incident was recorded in the jewelry shop's internal CCTV cameras.

The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the woman calmly browsing before brandishing the weapon. Ayodhya police arrived and searched for the suspects soon after the alarm was raised. SP Rural Balwant Chaudhary said several teams were formed. “We are checking the footage from over 50 CCTV cameras around the town to find the bike escape route,” Chaudhary said.
We were looking into whether the weapon used was a real firearm but investigators also were looking at the possibility that it might have been a high-quality toy pistol used to intimidate the staff. A sharp rise in traders' concerns. In Ayodhya, where we’re in a high-security zone at peak times, the crime is brazen and the traders’ association protested the way it happened.
The business owners want more patrols and better monitoring at the markets to prevent the “filmy-style” robberies. Police have identified the location of the getaway vehicle and are conducting searches in neighboring districts to catch the “burqa-clad” robber and her associate.
