A 31-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband in Amatur village of Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district of Karnataka after she filed for divorce after long-standing arguments for a divorce from her husband, a report said. The deceased was identified as Lakshmi Madamageri, a resident of Gollar Oni in Bailhongal, a village in the same Taluk in Belagavi district.
According to the initial information, Lakshmi and her husband Raju Madamageri had married about five years ago after being in a relationship. But the couple had been having marital problems for around two years. Lakshmi had filed for divorce.
Husband Allegedly Lured Wife on Pretext of Giving Her a Lift
According to the story, Raju contacted Lakshmi after she returned from work and offered to drop her home. So, trusting her husband, Lakshmi accompanied him.
But instead of taking her home, Raju allegedly took her towards the Amatur area in Bailhongal taluk. Police suspect that an argument or confrontation may have occurred there, after which Lakshmi was allegedly attacked with a stone.
Woman Allegedly Killed in Amatur
Lakshmi suffered fatal injuries after being struck on the head with a stone. She died in the incident while Raju fled from the spot after the alleged attack.
The incident has horrified residents of the area, as the couple married the love of their lives and had been together for around five years; they were married for love and had been together for about five years, they said.
A marital dispute was reported prior to the incident
The case is being investigated against the backdrop of reported marital discord between Lakshmi and Raju. The couple had been fighting for almost two years, the information said.
Lakshmi had sought a divorce because of the ongoing disputes, police said. Police are now trying to determine if the dispute over separation was linked to the killing.
However, the exact circumstances that led to the incident and the events immediately before the alleged attack are yet to be established through the police investigation.
Bailhongal Police Launch Search for Accused
After the incident, Raju fled and is now being searched for by the police. Bailhongal police have launched an operation to trace and apprehend the accused.
Investigators will collect evidence at the location where Lakshmi was attacked and record statements from people who could have information about the couple's relationship and the events leading up to the incident.
The police investigation will also look to establish the sequence of events, including how Lakshmi was taken to Amatur, what happened before the alleged assault, and how the accused left the area.
Investigation Underway
The death has raised issues about domestic conflict and the mounting of marital disputes. Even if the marital discord is the focus of the investigation, police will need to establish the motive and situation from the evidence and witnesses’ accounts.
The police are still trying to find Raju Madamageri. The investigation will be able to give more details of the death of Lakshmi.
