The Incident: A Fatal Leap Over the Divider

The victims were travelling in an Indica from the Tumakuru side headed to Bengaluru, according to the Madanayakanahalli police. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, jumping over the road divider and colliding with a KSRTC bus on its way out of Bengaluru.

The effect of the hit was so extensive that the wrecked vehicle was only a ruined lump of metal. Four occupants died without warning as the crash's force was too great. The driver, who was critically ill, was taken to the Nelamangala Government Hospital, but he died shortly after arriving there regardless of medical treatment.

Victims Identified: Young Lives Cut Short

Two of the deceased were identified to be Harshith and Nikhit, residents of Doddaballapur. Harshith was a second-year degree student at Sai Vidya College Rajanakunte. The other three victims have not yet been identified, and police are trying to contact their families. The devastating scenes took place at the Nelamangala Government Hospital,  where Harshith’s mother was crying, holding her son’s corpse in her hands.

A family member explained that Harshith had been at home until 8:30 PM and had stepped out stating that he was coming back fairly soon after seeing a friend. What they did not know was that it was the last time they saw him alive.

A Grim Week for Bengaluru Rural

This tragic accident follows another terrible one just days earlier. Seven people died in a single-shot accident involving a canter, a bike and an XUV close to M. Satyavara village in Hoskote Taluk on Friday. The recurrence of such high-fatality accidents on the National Highways around Bengaluru have stirred great discontent with road safety and driver fatigue.

The Madanayakanahalli police have reported an incident and investigate whether overspeeding or a mechanical failure caused the vehicle to cross one side of the road. The front of the KSRTC bus was also seriously damaged, but no heavy injuries were reported to the bus passengers.
