Bengaluru: In a major urban safety decision, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided to proceed with the demolition of an 18-storey residential apartment building near Kudlu, as there was a lot of structural damage and a noticeable tilt in the building.
If carried out as planned, the demolition is expected to be one of the most significant high-rise demolition operations in Bengaluru's history.
According to officials, the apartment tower developed by SNN Raj Corp has 18 floors and 49 residential apartments. The project has been built at a cost of about ₹200 crore.
Authorities said structural inspections had found that there was damage to the building and the building was leaning to one side. The report raised the possibility of a hazard to residents and the surrounding properties if not addressed, they said.
The GBA held a meeting with the SNN Raj Corp representatives to discuss the future of the building. The Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority advised that the structure should be demolished in the interest of public safety, he said.
The developer has agreed to the proposal and has consented to undertake the demolition. The company has also agreed to bear the entire cost of the demolition process and the planning and execution of the operation.
