Bengaluru: In a surprising turn of events, a man who had been pretending to be physically disabled to get alms from unaware passersby was arrested by the local police. In the ITI Layout area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Byatarayanapura Police Station, the police acted promptly on the alarms of the concerned residents who felt the man was playing games.
Mukesh is from Uttar Pradesh. Neighbors made observations from their window that he limped and exhibited physical disability while begging in the community. But many people had begun to suspect Mukesh for what he appeared to be doing when he thought no one was watching.
Mukesh’s façade came crashing down when he was confronted by the residents. The people who had been less convinced about his claims had begun to question him about the man's apparent act and were convinced that the disability was a lie and the man’s disability was just a way to gain sympathy and money from the kind and kind people he was being helped by. The situation became more heated, and with the residents’ attention, the situation was getting a lot of attention, so the Byatarayanapura Police was notified right away.
The police went to Mukesh's house and found that he had a phone. The phone was registered to Neeraj and might have been stolen recently from an iPhone. Law enforcement officials are still searching for the phone’s origin and how Mukesh got it in his possession.
The police took Mukesh into custody for further questioning after the residents’ complaints. Once the initial inquiries were made, law enforcement officials arranged for him to be taken to a government shelter for the homeless, a compassionate approach to a complex situation.
Mukesh is believed to have been in this deceptive mode of begging in a number of prestigious neighborhoods of Bengaluru, despite being physically fit and able to work. This has raised serious questions about organized begging and abuse of public sympathy by people who do not really need help.
No formal charges have yet been filed regarding mobile phone theft, and the case will continue to be investigated. The police are investigating the ownership of the recovered mobile device and investigating residents’ claims against Mukesh.
