Bengaluru: There was a terrible incident in Bengaluru today in which a newly married woman died by suicide at home. She was found hanging in the bathroom of her home. The family filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws with Indiranagar Police, and they are investigating the cause of her death.
Prerana had married Vinay nearly a year ago, her family said. They stated that the marriage was arranged after Vinay’s family approached them as she was pursuing her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree. They had assured her parents that she would be allowed to continue her education after marriage.
Prerana completed her B.Sc. course earlier this year. But her family has claimed that marital disputes started after the wedding, especially over pressure to have a child. They also claimed that Vinay often suspected her without reason, leading to repeated arguments between the couple.
The complaint reports that Prerana returned home to her parents around two months ago after she had argued with her husband. A family meeting was later held in which elders advised both families, and Prerana went back to her matrimonial home in the hope that the problems would be resolved.
On the morning of the incident, family members were informed that Prerana had hanged herself inside the house. She was immediately rushed to Chinmayi Hospital in Indiranagar, where doctors declared that she had died before being taken to the hospital.
Prerana was continuously under mental harassment by her husband due to his suspicion and her constant disagreements over starting a family, her family claimed in their complaint. The family said her husband and his family were responsible for her death and a thorough investigation is needed.
Police said Vinay was working on a contract basis with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). But investigators have not linked his employment to the case, and the investigation is still based on the allegations in the complaint.
Based on the family's statement, Indiranagar Police have registered a case and initiated further legal proceedings. The husband, relatives, neighbours, and other witnesses are expected to provide statements. Detectives would also check forensic evidence, call records, and other material to determine the sequence of events leading to the woman's death.
The police have said the investigation is still in its early stages. The family's claims are still being researched, and the cause and circumstances of the death will be established based on the evidence collected during the investigation, they said.
They also stressed that the public needs to keep out of the speculation while the investigation is in progress and that legal action will be taken if there is any evidence to support the allegations.
