Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar arrived at the grand foundation stone ceremony at the kick-off of the mammoth project, which is set to become India’s second-largest international cricket stadium.

Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) is responsible for the construction of the stadium, the development of which will take place at Indlavadi village in Anekal taluk on a plot of nearly 100 acres. The project will cost about ₹900 crore and should be wrapped up in two to three years.

The massive sports facility is said to seat close to 80,000 spectators and rank among the biggest cricket stadiums in the country after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was an inauguration that spanned a huge public participation process with ceremonies, cultural performances and welcome rituals, as well as a good atmosphere for the ceremonies.

Local MLA Anekal Shivanna awarded the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister a silver mace at the event. Officials from various levels had attended the foundation ceremony, such as Home Minister G. Parameshwara, MLA K.M. Shivalingegowda, CM's legal advisor Ponnanna, MLA Krishnappa, and other government officials associated with its development.

Other than cricket, the proposed sports complex will be planned as a world-class multi-sports facility with indoor and outdoor sporting facilities. To the extent possible, the indoor sporting complex will have at least 11 international sports disciplines, according to officials.

Badminton, basketball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, squash, kabaddi, kho-kho, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing, and weightlifting, in addition to other sports, will be facilitated. The project will also be built around outdoor sports facilities, including synthetic athletic tracks, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and handball courts. Modern padel and pickleball courts will also be added, in line with contemporary sports trends.

Among the project’s key areas of focus are its aquatic sports facilities. Experts will create the Olympic-sized swimming pool along with a high-diving pool and separate practice pools for athletes. The sports city concept is not limited merely to stadium construction.

The blueprint for the project is said to have a multilevel parking facility that can accommodate more than 500 cars in it at one time. Commercial and retail areas, including sports merchandise stores, restaurants, and entertainment areas, are also anticipated to be built around the stadium area.

At the complex, there is high-tech accommodation and residential blocks to accommodate players and staff. A helipad, public squares, landscaped green areas, and modern visitor facilities are also part of the plan. Zameer Ahmed Khan, the Housing Minister, spoke to the committee and added, “Local farmers have long called for a sports stadium and education infrastructure to be expanded in the region.

Bengaluru also required another major stadium outside the city centre, he said, because of crowd management concerns and congestion problems seen during big cricket matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The project is believed by officials to not only reinforce Karnataka’s sporting ecosystem but also support real estate developments, employment, tourism, and infrastructure in the rapidly developing Anekal region.

Sports experts say the stadium would eventually become home to international cricket matches, IPL games, concerts, other concerts, sporting events on a grand scale, and a place where Bengaluru would come a long way to become a global sports centre. The press disclosure has brought cricket fans and sports lovers across Karnataka into rapture over the idea, as the construction project is being touted by many to be the city’s future landmark that will transform the face of sports infrastructure in the state’s capital.
