Bengaluru commuters will have to make up their travel plans with Bengaluru Traffic Police imposing new vehicle restrictions on five major flyovers and elevated corridors from September 2026 to prevent accidents on some of the city's busiest elevated stretches.
The move will help to improve road safety, lower congestion and prevent accidents on some of those busiest elevated roads.
The new restrictions will affect vehicles of all kinds from two-wheelers, passenger autorickshaws and goods vehicles.
Some restrictions will stay in place throughout the day, others will be applied during peak traffic hours.
BGS Flyover on Mysuru Road, Peenya Elevated Corridor, Double-Decker Flyover between Silk Board and Ragigudda, International Airport Road Elevated Corridor and others will be restricted from September 4.
Restrictions on the Electronics City Elevated Corridor will begin on September 11.
Electronics City Elevated Corridor
The Electronics City corridor will be subject to some of the strictest restrictions. Two-wheelers, passenger autorickshaws and three-wheeler goods autorickshaws will be prohibited throughout the day. Heavy, medium and light goods vehicles will also be prohibited from 6 am to 10 pm.
The decision was the result of accidents, vehicle breakdowns and congestion on the elevated corridor, traffic police said. The corridor has seen serious accidents, particularly with two-wheelers, the officials added.

International Airport Road Elevated Corridor
On the Airport Road Elevated Corridor between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction, two-wheelers and passenger autorickshaws will be banned around the clock. Goods vehicles of all kinds will be banned from 6 am to 10 pm.
Peenya Elevated Corridor
The Peenya Elevated Corridor will prohibit passenger autorickshaws and three-wheeler goods autorickshaws throughout the day. Heavy and medium goods vehicles will be restricted in the morning and evening peak periods (7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm).
BGS Flyover
On the BGS Flyover on Mysuru Road, heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited throughout the day. Other goods vehicles such as three-wheeler goods autos will also be limited during the 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm hours of peak hours.
Silk Board–Ragigudda Double-Decker Flyover
The Double-Decker Flyover connecting Silk Board and Ragigudda will see a 24-hour ban on heavy goods vehicles.
The restrictions are being implemented as a trial, traffic officials said. Many factors such as flyover design and width, accident severity, traffic congestion due to vehicle breakdowns, entry and exit bottlenecks and emergency traffic management were taken into account before the changes were made.
Bengaluru motorists should be aware of the new rules and check vehicle restrictions before taking an elevated route to avoid penalties and delays from the new ones.
Commuters on two-wheelers, autorickshaws or commercial goods vehicles should plan alternative routes ahead of the September rollout to avoid penalties and delays.
