Parth Jindal has taken over as Chairman of JSW MG Motor India Private Limited (JPMIPL) and has been appointed by the company’s Board of Directors on August 31 as JSW MG Motor India looks to develop electric vehicles, localisation, manufacturing expansion and sustainable mobility.
Jindal has been associated with JSW MG Motor India since the joint venture between JSW Group and SAIC Motor. And in the course of his tenure as a member of the company's board he has been heavily involved in product strategy, manufacturing expansion and localisation of the company. At a time for more electric and new-energy vehicles to be introduced into the Indian automotive fleet, he steps in as the chairman.
The new JSW-SAIC partnership is aimed at accelerating the growth of MG Motor in India. JSW Group’s understanding of the Indian market and SAIC Motor’s global automotive knowledge are the main drivers for this partnership. Local sourcing, manufacturing capacity, charging infrastructure and new vehicle launches are the key areas for a successful long term.
Jindal will have to strengthen the company's localisation and product portfolio expansion strategy in this role. The vehicle maker is also involved in both the internal combustion engine sector and electric vehicle sector, and its EV business is now a key part of its growth strategy.
It has also made good progress in electric vehicles. JSW MG Motor India said that it sold more than 1.5 lakh electric vehicles in India since the company first introduced its first EV in India. MG Windsor is now one of the most significant models for the company and it is the best-selling electric vehicle in India and the automaker is calling it its best seller in two years. Windsor sales have already crossed 75,000 in less than two years on launch in July 2026.
We are also planning to grow our new-energy vehicle portfolio. JSW MG Motor India has said it will introduce two new EVs and one PHEV in the financial year 2023-24 as well as two new EVs and one plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in India’s market in 2024 and will be introducing these new vehicles to enhance its presence in India’s fast-growing electric and hybrid vehicle market.
Jindal has a number of leadership positions in the JSW group. He is Managing Director for JSW Cement and JSW Paints, Chairman of JSW Dulux Limited and a Director on the Board of JSW Energy. He is also the founder of JSW Sports and co-Owner of Delhi Capitals cricket team.
His experience in manufacturing, consumer businesses, sports and energy will be useful for JSW MG Motor India as it moves forward with the next phase. It has also been focusing on building a more local supply chain and reducing reliance on imported components.
The job also arrives as JSW Group and SAIC Motor are pondering the need for investment in capital to make MG’s manufacturing capability significantly more robust in India. The partners are also talking about a massive scale-up of production and continuing investment in localisation and new products,” the newspaper reported. The company has already invested in large parts of the production ecosystem in India.
For India's automobile sector in particular, this leadership change comes at a crucial stage. Competition in the EV market is heating up as established car manufacturers and innovators are launching affordable and advanced electric vehicles with new and advanced technology. Companies are also having to boost localisation, build and expand charging infrastructure and develop products that can appeal to the Indian consumer.
Now that Parth Jindal is Chairman, JSW MG Motor India will remain focused on electric mobility, local manufacturing, product development and technology-based growth. As it is going to expand market share in India’s rapidly growing EV market and have a bigger manufacturing presence, the company should be able to thrive in the next few years.
So the appointment is more than a change in leadership; it shows how much JSW MG Motor India is banking on its next phase of growth in India’s rapidly expanding automobile and electric mobility market.
