Residents of Bengaluru may be facing moderate to heavy rain from today, as agencies have started to project more pre-monsoon rain in other parts of the city and towns near Bengaluru.
Rain is projected to be steady for days, with thunderstorms, as well as lightning and strong winds in many areas. It is predicted based on weather forecasts and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) information that cloudy air, evening showers and thunderstorms can occur in Bengaluru between 15 May and 17 May.
Late in the afternoon and through the night, a section of the city should see heavy rainfall. Rain is likely to give the city a temporary respite from the blistering temperatures that have swept over the area in the last few days. But authorities have also warned of potential waterlogging, traffic snags and disruption in low-lying areas if heavy rains persist.
Several districts of Karnataka are also receiving weather alerts owing to a more serious threat from thunderstorms combined with the strength of the winds. Also, changing atmospheric conditions above South India are driving a new bout of rain over the region, the weather experts said.
Heavy rains were scheduled – Bengaluru commuters have been advised to look ahead to plan for the late evening hours – they said heavy rain on the major roads & flyover would slow the flow of traffic. Residents at the lower levels will also be warned to be careful. The city has received plenty of rainfall this season, a variety of different types of precipitation during this time, some parts of the city have been flooded, and areas have become waterlogged.
Pre-monsoon activities started to build over Karnataka, and officials are watching closely. Intermittent showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue in Bengaluru for the next week. Rainy, moist days along with torrential rain and heavy rainfall will be the best choice for most when it comes time to move closer to midweek or to the peak of summer.
You need to grab umbrellas, stay indoors during this ongoing lightning activity and be sure to stay in line with the official weather report so the residents stay in line with their plans.
