A horrific murder case came to light in Karnataka’s Bidar district, where a 26-year-old woman was reportedly killed by her husband following marital disputes linked to an alleged extramarital relationship.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjana, a resident of Honnikeri village in Bidar taluk. Police and family members said that Sanjana was murdered by her husband, Bhagwat Gyaneshwar, another resident of Bolegaon village in Bhalki taluk.
The incident took place in a forested area near Gayamukha Temple in Bhalki Taluk. Initial investigations indicate that the accused husband took his wife to the area on the pretext of visiting her parents, but instead of taking her there, he allegedly took her to a secluded forest where the attack took place.
According to the sources, Bhagwat had developed a close relationship with a girl living opposite his house and constantly fought with the couple. Family members of the deceased claim that there had been tension over the issue for several months.
Police suspect that the accused used an iron rod to attack Sanjana. She sustained severe injuries to her head and neck during the assault, as well. After the brutal attack, the husband tried to describe the incident as a road accident or accidental injury to cover up the truth and minimise suspicion.
Sanjana was rushed to the hospital after the incident. But doctors couldn’t save her, and she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. Her death triggered emotional scenes outside the mortuary, where grieving family members rallied and demanded swift action against the accused.
The victim and the accused had been married for nearly two years. And what was a marital relationship ended in tragedy, leaving both families devastated. Relatives of Sanjana have accused Bhagwat of deliberately planning the murder and have sought the harshest possible punishment under the law.
As a result of a complaint from the victim’s family, a case was registered at Dhannura Police Station. Police have started a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the death and are collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events.
And detectives will also be looking into whether the murder was premeditated and if the accused was trying to cover up the crime by making it look like an accident. Family members, medical reports and forensic evidence will be crucial in the case.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the region and inspired residents to call for swift justice for the victim. Police have assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected, a police statement said.
