Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), ASG Delhi, organised a tree and Vetiver grass plantation drive at Shri Bani Dham Mandir Gaushala in Ghata village, Gurugram, on Monday.
The initiative was done in Aravali Hills to promote environmental conservation and promote community participation in local ecological efforts.
During the plantation programme, CISF personnel planted 150 trees and around 500 Vetiver slips at the Gaushala premises. The work is part of the CISF Vetiver Plantation Initiative 2026, a wider environmental campaign that was launched in August this year.
Under the programme, about 15-20 lakh Vetiver slips are planted in various CISF formations. Vetiver grass is widely used for soil and water conservation, and so is very relevant in places at risk of soil erosion and environmental degradation.
As part of the larger campaign, CISF personnel planted one lakh Vetiver slips along the Yamuna riverbank at Ganga Vihar in New Delhi on August 21. On August 19, two lakh Vetiver slips were planted in Kishtwar in the Jammu region by personnel of the CISF 7th Reserve Battalion.
The Gurugram plantation drive is in line with the force’s continuous environmental responsibility which goes well beyond just security. The initiative also aims to engage CISF personnel in conservation and strengthen the CISF’s engagement with the local community.
The campaign is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on environmental conservation through public participation. It is based on the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and Mission LiFE which are also social and environmental and will be promoted by people and communities to be more environmentally responsible.
The initiative is consistent with the work of IPS Director General Praveer Ranjan in community engagement and environmental responsibility. CISF personnel are encouraged to take part in conservation activities with plantation as part of the environment and contribute to greener places.
The plantation programme in Ghata village was followed by Gau Seva at Shri Bani Dham Mandir Gaushala. CISF personnel gave chara and jaggery to the cows at Gaushala as part of the work.
The Gurugram programme combined tree plantation, Vetiver cultivation and community engagement in a single initiative. With the CISF aiming to plant millions of Vetiver slips across its formations, the campaign is a large-scale environmental effort involving personnel in different regions.
Plantation activities also form part of the wider effort to build environmental awareness through engagement. The CISF project focuses on how organised institutions can assist in environmental protection and how conservation activities can be implemented in local communities and public spaces.
