A sensational episode broke across Bengaluru after the suspect assault of a home guard, whose presence was reportedly to protect the woman from bullying. Detained after the attack on home guard Lakshmi Narasamma, Damini, the pseudonym behind the assault, a private worker in her late 20s, was identified as Mohini. The incident reveals complex social tensions over everything from public safety and women’s rights to the role of law enforcement in daily life.
The Incident:
It happened by the KR Puram railway station Friday evening, according to a police report. Damini was walking down the road when several miscreants started making lewd comments about what she was wearing. A patrol officer (Narasamma) on traffic duty nearby responded by stepping in and protecting Damini. She pushed off the miscreants immediately enough for the harassment to cease quickly. But what came afterward was not what was expected. After dispatching the troublemakers, Narasamma told Damini to get “decent clothes” to avoid some future incidents. She also warned her against walking on the crowded road because of high traffic. This advice enraged Damini and she supposedly turned on Narasamma and assaulted her viciously.
A woman in her late 20s was arrested on charges of attacking and beating a woman home guard for advising her to wear decent clothing.

The Assault:
Damini's assault, witnesses said, was sudden and intense. She allegedly struck Narasamma on the face and nose, causing bleeding injuries. Narasamma had just intervened to protect Damini from harassment with the attack, shocking bystanders. Narasamma was soon taken to a private hospital, where she was treated as an outpatient for her injuries. Damini was arrested after the police arrived on the scene and entered the scene.
Legal Action:
Based on Narasamma’s complaint, Damini was arrested and presented before the court after being arrested. The court returned her to judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison. The police also verified Damini is a Narayanapura-based resident in Mahadevapura and works in a private company. Damini had also studied in the Maldives while she was in school and obtained a Bachelor degree in Business Management (BBM) in a private college in Bengaluru as a result of the investigations.
Police Statement:
The sequence of events was further elaborated by a senior police officer, who added, “Home guard Narasamma stepped in after offenders made lewd comments on Damini's attire. She chased them away and then she told Damini that she should dress decently, that traffic would have her not walking on the road. Angered by the statement, Damini attacked her.” The officer also said the assault was so severe as to cause visible injuries that it reinforced Damini’s case.
Social Context:
The incident, on the other hand, also highlights some critical questions about public safety and the plight of women in urban settings. But on one hand Narasamma acted responsibly by shielding Damini from harassment. Her advice about clothing, conversely, ignited anger toward her, which then led to violence. The confrontation mirrors larger social debates about victim‑blaming, individual freedom and the rights or wrongs of society, and the proper role of law enforcement. She wasn’t being judgmental; Narasamma was thinking that her comments might have been in Damini’s best interest, but they turned into judge’s advice, and it triggered quite as likely a backlash in Damini as anything else.
Public Reaction:
The case has been picked up on social media and has been discussed in local communities. Some sympathize with Narasamma, cheering her courage in fighting miscreants, condemning the attack upon her. Some would say that telling women how to dress shifts the responsibility away from the harassers and onto the women, viewing it as unfair. The divide of course also reflects how sensitive questions of gender, in general, as well as safety and choice, are in the world we live in today.
Damini's attack on Home guard Lakshmi Narasamma near KR Puram railway station is a shocking example of how the public safety issue and social sentiment plays a critical role. Narasamma has been brave in defending Damini from harassment, but the situation eventually got a little ugly as her advice was regarded as too harsh. Damini is also now in possession of law and was remanded to court. Narasamma remains in the Banasawadi traffic police station, even though she has been injured. This situation serves to emphasise the importance of balanced public safety measures – where the protection is without judgment and a deference to police is respected. And it makes it all the more clear that harassment has to be dealt with head-on, so people are not put to the spot.
