He had given full confidence to the police in order to protect everyone and then he was blamed for the mishap.

The emotional speech was heard in the state and Vijay’s supporters hailed him for stating his feelings openly and critics called for accountability over the incident.

His comments have once again brought the focus back to crowd management, public safety and the responsibilities of political leaders and law enforcement agencies in large public events.

An emotional address in Karur

In front of thousands of party workers and local residents in Karur, Vijay recalled the tragic events surrounding the stampede that took place during one of his public appearances.

He said the stampede had been very much emotional and emotionally he said he was deeply affected by the stampede.

"I trusted the police to make the necessary arrangements for the safety of the people. But when the tragedy happened, I was the one who was blamed," Vijay said in an emotional speech.

His speech was met with loud applause from supporters, many of whom raised slogans expressing solidarity with the chief minister.

First official visit after becoming Chief Minister

The visit to Karur was Vijay’s first official trip to the district since being appointed Chief Minister.

The visit included inspections of government welfare programme inspections, meetings with local officials and interactions with beneficiaries of various state schemes.

Along with the review of development projects, Vijay also met the residents and assured them his government would focus on infrastructure, employment, education, health care and agricultural development in the area.

Officials accompanying the chief minister briefed him on ongoing projects related to road connectivity, drinking water supply and rural development.

Stampede Incident Remains a Sensitive Issue

The stampede mentioned by Vijay is still one of the most controversial events in the recent Tamil Nadu politics.

Many casualties and injuries were caused by the stampede and the mass panic caused public concern in the face of crowd control measures at political events.

In what followed there were many questions regarding the event management, security planning and coordination between the organisers and the police.

These were amongst the issues raised when the tragedy occurred and while investigations were carried out and a variety of causes of the tragedy have been studied, there was continued political fault lines over responsibility.

In his Karur speech, Vijay said that the loss of life was heartbreaking and that no family should ever experience such pain.

Focus on Public Safety

The chief minister said public safety would be his top priority. He called for more coordination between departments and more coordination in the management of crowds at large public gathering events.

He also asked citizens to cooperate with authorities when large incidents occurred in the event that the same tragedies could be prevented in the future.

Vijay said the government will also introduce better planning, emergency response mechanisms and tighter safety measures for public programmes in Tamil Nadu.

Political Reactions

Vijay’s emotional remarks have sparked a new political debate. His speech was heartfelt and genuine, he said, and reflected the emotional burden he has been carrying since the incident.

Opposition leaders, however, maintained that emotional statements should be accompanied by transparency and accountability.

They urged the government to ensure that lessons from the tragedy translate into stronger safety measures and effective governance.

Looking Ahead

Vijay's visit to Karur was largely about governance and development. And it was all about this, he said, through administrative reviews and an emotional look back at the past.

The chief minister had made a very public statement to the public that he is still committed to both welfare and public safety.

As Tamil Nadu moves forward, the Karur visit may be remembered not only as Vijay's first official visit to the district as chief minister.

But also as a moment when he publicly expressed the personal impact of a tragedy that continues to resonate across the state.
