A play school attendant has been arrested in Delhi’s Maujpur after a three-year-old boy was allegedly physically abused in the school premises. The child was found to be unwell after he went home and his parents sought medical attention and later examined CCTV footage from the school.
The child’s father, Navneet Chaudhary, said his son had been troubled for several days before the issue was more serious on August 18. The father alleged that the child returned home from school on that day and immediately began throwing up and complaining of dizziness. Concerned about his health, the family took him to a paediatrician for an examination.
The doctor observed that the child's eyes were swollen and told the family to seek the advice of an ENT specialist. The parents took the boy to an ENT doctor who, the father said, found swelling in both eardrums and warned that they were close to rupturing. The child’s condition was very serious and required immediate attention, he said.
After the medical examination, the child's mother approached the play school to seek an explanation. She asked school officials whether anyone had physically assaulted the child, as the father said. He said the response from the principal and owner was rude and that the family was not satisfied with the explanation provided by the management.
The parents decided to look at the school's CCTV footage to see what happened to their son. Instead of simply viewing the live camera feed, the family turned to recorded footage from August 18, the day the child returned home sick.

CCTV Footage Raises Serious Questions
The father claimed that the CCTV footage showed his son being restrained and subjected to repeated physical abuse. His child was tied up and was allegedly beaten continuously, kicked, and subjected to violent pulling of his ears.
The allegations have raised serious concerns about the safety and supervision of young children within educational institutions. Parents entrust play schools and other early-learning centres with the care of children who are too young to communicate everything that happens to them. Any report of prolonged physical abuse in such a facility therefore raises questions about supervision, staff conduct, and school management.
The child's father has also questioned the role of the school management and alleged the owners and principal should be held responsible. He said that if CCTV cameras were being monitored regularly, school authorities should have been able to see inappropriate treatment of children and intervene.
The father has called for action against the attendant who was arrested and those responsible for the school management and supervision. Other teachers involved in the incident were unavailable or had allegedly fled, he said. These claims will need to be determined by the police.
Investigation Underway
The arrest of the caretaker or attendant is the first major action in the case. Investigators would check the CCTV recordings, medical documents, statements from the child’s family and school staff, and other evidence available to establish exactly what happened.
Medical findings of the child’s father could also be an important part of the investigation. Police will investigate whether the injuries and symptoms reported by the family are consistent with the allegations made against the accused.
We also point out that proper CCTV monitoring is necessary at schools and childcare facilities. Just having surveillance cameras is not enough if footage is not reviewed properly when complaints are made. Parents and local authorities would expect school management to have procedures in place for the proper response to complaints and review of any possible abuse.
For the family, the immediate priority is the child’s recovery and accountability. The father has publicly ordered action against all those he believes were responsible and failed in their duties. He has also challenged whether schools adequately fulfilled their responsibility to protect children under their care.
As the investigation continues, authorities will have to establish the sequence of events and determine the responsibility of the arrested attendant, school staff, and management. Any further action will depend on the evidence collected during the probe.

Play schools and early-learning centres serve very young children who need close supervision and a safe environment.
