Delhi Police have filed an FIR following the alleged assault of a head constable at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) event in Tilak Nagar on September 28, 2026. A day earlier, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was visiting the area with party leaders.
According to Delhi Police, the head constable was in plain clothes and was recording the proceedings as part of his duties when he was surrounded by AAP supporters. Police said he was assaulted during the incident and later visited a doctor for medical treatment.
Saurabh Bharadwaj, Jarnail Singh named
The FIR names AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj and Jarnail Singh, along with other party workers. Police also filed a separate FIR against Sahib Singh who is associated with Jarnail Singh.
The two cases are for obstruction of a public servant performing official duties and assault of a public servant. The allegations are under investigation and legal proceedings are pending.
India Today reported that Jarnail Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj were detained on September 29 after filing of FIRs. The report said Sahib Singh was not arrested during this time.
What Happened During the Tilak Nagar visit?
The incident took place in context of a political conflict over a previous incident between Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma and Sahib Singh on September 27 during road inspection in Tilak Nagar.
AAP leaders had claimed Verma slapped Sahib Singh during the confrontation. Verma has denied the AAP's claim and said there was provocation and misbehaviour by people accompanying the MLA. Police subsequently registered a non-cognisable report against Verma in connection with the purported slapping incident.
Kejriwal visited Tilak Nagar on September 28, accompanied by AAP leaders, amid the controversy. After having driven there, the party raised questions about the quality of the newly constructed roadwork in the area.
Police Investigation Underway
The FIR is another development to Delhi government’s continuing dispute with AAP leaders about Tilak Nagar road.
Delhi Police will now investigate the alleged assault on the head constable, including the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the roles of those named in the FIR. Being named in an FIR does not, in itself, establish guilt, and the allegations will be subject to the legal process.
