New Delhi: Security was reinforced in the capital after about 10,000 people gathered at Jantar Mantar for a protest organized under the banner of the CJP. Heavy armed forces and police were deployed to the crowd and reinforcements were put in place to keep the demonstration peaceful and to prevent it from disrupting public order in Delhi.
To contain the crowds and increase the police presence in Jantar Mantar, it took many months.
Police officials kept an eye on the situation while officers from various departments were stationed at different places around the protest site. Barricades were erected at different places to prevent protesters and pedestrians from moving and traffic diversions were held on roads leading to Jantar Mantar to reduce congestion.
The reinforcements were deployed as a preventive measure because the number of participants was large and public safety was paramount, the officials said. Police teams were on the watch for any situation that may occur and peaceful assembly was conducted as per the law, they said.
Protesters were also rallying around issues raised by the organizers. Organizers said they would not let a single person go and that they would be peaceful and cooperate with the law enforcement officers.
Delhi police advised the participants to abide by the conditions for the demonstration and to respect the conditions for the demonstration and not do what they have agreed to do, and to avoid any behavior that could lead to public inconvenience or law-and-order problems, said Delhi Police. A public notification of traffic restrictions and security measures would also be issued by the government, the people were advised.
Political observers noted that Jantar Mantar is one of Delhi’s frequent places where demonstrators and public campaigns have been held. There are protests of various organizations, civil society organizations, students, and political activists held there and large gatherings at the site are often accompanied by increased security arrangements to keep things peaceful and minimize disruption to daily life.
As the demonstration continued, police officials were always in close communication with organizers to help clear out the crowd and ensure peaceful protest and abide by the agreement. Law enforcement agencies had an objective to strike a balance between citizens’ democratic right to peaceful protest and public safety and the city’s survival.

And the officials said security would continue to be reviewed as the situation evolved. The rest of the staff would remain in place until any further crowd size increased or a serious incident occurred.
The deployment of reinforcements shows how Delhi Police is putting preventive policing at the center of the strategy for large public events. Such demonstration management is done with an eye to ensure that demonstrations cease peacefully and people feel safe.
