A 21-year-old woman who was critically injured during the protest-related violence in Delhi has shown significant clinical improvement, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital said on Wednesday.
The woman, who had been on ventilator support, has now been successfully extubated and is breathing independently, said the hospital.
She also indicated that she is conscious and responding to commands correctly, doctors said. MRI results of her brain and spine are normal, which is an encouraging sign for her recovery.
The patient is well and her condition has been improving since she started treatment, the hospital said. She is still receiving medical treatment and is closely supervised by the medical team.
RML Hospital also confirmed that she is currently the only patient admitted to the facility in connection with the reported protest incident. All necessary treatment and continuous monitoring are being provided, the hospital said.
The health update comes days after several prominent political leaders visited the hospital to meet protesters injured during the confrontation in Delhi. Union Minister JP Nadda, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Parliament Rahul Gandhi were among those who arrived at RML Hospital.
Thousands of protesters had gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday for the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. Anti-corruption demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
The protests heated up when people tried to march towards Parliament. Delhi Police deployed lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the crowd, leading to injuries to protesters and police personnel.
The incident has since triggered a political confrontation, with protesters and authorities trading allegations over who was responsible for the escalation.
Protesters have returned to Jantar Mantar and have not lost patience with the violence.
The demonstrators are currently calling for three major demands: the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, ₹1 crore compensation for families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak controversy, and the withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters.
The latest medical bulletin has been a positive update in the midst of the political and public debate over the protest-related violence. Her condition is under medical supervision but her recovery has shown signs of progress (independent breathing, consciousness and normal MRI), doctors say.
