New Delhi: There was waterlogging in some areas of the capital as heavy rains had forced road traffic to slow down and travel was hard for commuters.
Footage of South Moti Bagh Metro Station and Akbar Road showed the water on roads and low-lying areas of the city after heavy rainfall.
The rain was a relief from the heat, but water was also piling up in many places in Delhi’s vicinity. Motor traffic was affected in areas where rainwater had collected on roads and commuters were having a difficult time maneuvering through waterlogged areas.
Images from South Moti Bagh Metro Station showed waterlogging around the area, with rainwater covering parts of the road.

That was concerning for pedestrians and drivers, especially during periods of heavy rain in the areas.
Similar situations have been observed near Akbar Road, where water was also found on roads after heavy showers. Waterlogging can slow traffic considerably and lead to congestion, especially in the middle of rush hour traffic in the morning and evening hours in the city.
Delhi is regularly waterlogged during heavy rains because of the pressure on the city’s drainage system. Heavy downpours over a short period can overwhelm drains and water pools on roads, underpasses, and other low-lying areas.
The recent rainfall also highlighted the problems faced by commuters in the monsoon season as well.

Two-wheelers and pedestrians are especially vulnerable on waterlogged roads and drivers may be less visible and unable to identify potholes or uneven surfaces underneath the water layer.
Drainage pumps and emergency teams are usually deployed in areas prone to waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
Traffic officials may also be needed to alleviate congestion and direct commuters through the affected areas.
People should be wary of driving through flooded roads during heavy rains and avoid driving through waterlogged roads. Commuters should also check traffic updates daily, especially during heavy rainfall.
The weather outlook remains critical for Delhi, because it might get worse with more rainfall which could cause waterlogging in areas that have already been waterlogged. The continuous showers may also affect traffic on critical highways and major roads.
