The victim has been identified as Taranpreet Singh, son of Bhupinder Singh from Paragpur. He is a second year Arts student at a government college.

The incident happened in Taranpreet’s car after he returned home from college. The alleged attack took place near the railway crossing on Isapur Road.

According to the complaint, a Thar SUV with no registration number came from behind and intercepted his vehicle. A few youths got out of the SUV and attacked Taranpreet with sharp weapons and sticks.

The group also allegedly vandalised his car during the attack.

After the attackers had left the area, passers by found the injured student and rushed him to Derabassi Government Hospital.

Doctors treated him initially at the hospital but referred him to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, due to his injuries.

How did the Derabassi Attack happen?

According to the complaint, Taranpreet was driving home after college when the SUV approached his car from behind.

The vehicle was blocking his way near the railway crossing on Isapur Road when several youths stepped out and attacked him.

The student was beaten with sticks and attacked with sharp edged weapons.

The attackers also damaged his car before leaving the spot.

Taranpreet was seriously injured during the assault. People passing through the area saw him and brought him to the government hospital in Derabassi.

After initial medical care, doctors referred him to GMCH in Sector 32, Chandigarh for further treatment.

Taranpreet said two youths from his college were among those who were involved in the attack, police said.

He identified the two alleged suspects by their names or nicknames as Kurli and Guri. He also claimed they were accompanied by other unidentified youths.

Police are not yet saying if the allegations are true or why the attackers may have started the attack.

That will be determined as we work on our investigation.

Police Check CCTV Footage for Attackers

We have started investigating the assault and we are searching for all the people involved.

The police are questioning people who saw the incident or saw the SUV around the time of the attack.

Police are also looking at CCTV footage from cameras installed near the railway crossing and surrounding areas.

The footage could help investigators identify the vehicle used by the attackers and establish the sequence of events.

The SUV had no visible registration number and that could make the investigation more challenging. Police will need to analyze the video and locate the vehicle and track its movements.

Investigators are also verifying Taranpreet's allegations against the two college students he identified.

The police will need to determine whether the alleged attackers had any previous dispute with Taranpreet and whether the assault was planned.

At this stage it is not clear what is the reason behind this attack.

The condition of the student is also being monitored as he continues to receive treatment at GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

It is worrying students and residents in Derabassi because the alleged attack took place while the student was returning home from college.

Police are now likely to follow up on the CCTV footage and gather statements from witnesses.

The investigation will also focus on the other people who allegedly accompanied the two youths named by the victim.

The allegations are still being investigated, and police are trying to get the facts out there.

Video footage and witness accounts of violent incidents must be gathered and preserved in a hurry if the attackers are to leave the scene before the police are there.

As the investigation continues, the motive for the attack on the 20 year old student will be established, and the suspects will be identified, investigators said.
