# Dharwad Doctor Found Murdered at Home, Wife Questioned as Eight-Year-Old Son Undergoes Treatment
A 45-year-old anesthesiologist was found murdered inside his apartment in Karnataka’s Dharwad on Sunday, while his eight-year-old son was found with stab wounds in another room. The shocking incident has shocked local medical doctors and residents of the apartment complex and police are investigating the circumstances of the crime.
The deceased is Dr. Kiran Honannavar, an anesthesiologist involved in Chirayu Hospital in Dharwad. His wife Dr. Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, has been taken into custody for questioning. Their injured son was rushed to a private hospital, where he is now under treatment.
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said preliminary evidence shows no outsiders entered the apartment at the time the incident occurred. The apartment is located in a very secure residential complex and investigators believe only three persons were on the scene - Dr. Kiran, his wife and their son.
The case came to light after Dr. Kiran's relatives became concerned when they were unable to reach him over the course of the day. Family members said they had different explanations from Dr. Priyanka, who initially said that her husband was resting and later said he had gone out. When numerous phone calls went unanswered until late that evening, relatives had to go to the apartment themselves.
In their house, they discovered Dr. Kiran lying in a pool of blood. In another room they found the couple’s young son with stab wounds. When officers arrived, the child was still alive and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care, said police.
There is now a task to determine the exact sequence of events that occurred in the apartment. Police have confirmed that the husband was found dead in one room, while the injured child was located separately. Family members are now studying the evidence and trying to piece together what happened, officials said.
Police Commissioner Shashikumar said Dr. Priyanka appeared to be in a state of shock and had been giving inconsistent and unusual statements during questioning. Her story needs to be verified and information from both sides of the family needs to come out as well to see if there were any domestic issues or other circumstances that may have led to the incident.
Authorities have also said there was no indication of any dispute between neighbours or outsiders. CCTV footage from the residential complex is being examined to rule out all possibilities and reconstruct the timeline leading up to the crime.
A case has been registered at the Suburban Police Station, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy results and forensic evidence, the police said, will help to determine the cause of death and further illuminate the circumstances of the murder.
Some relatives have speculated that Dr. Priyanka was involved in the murder, but police have not said anything and have urged the public not to jump to conclusions until the investigation is complete. No arrests have been made in connection with the murder and all angles are being explored, the department said.
Police have also not publicly confirmed that there are unverified reports about the child's purported mental health problems and said that they are not confirmed. The motives for the crime, investigators said, were not yet established and more details would be revealed based on forensic reports and witness testimony and the investigation, and will be made clear to the jurors and the community.
The tragedy has sent shock waves through Dharwad's medical fraternity and to the neighbours as well as workers in the hospital and residents are grieving for the death of Dr. Kiran Honannavar and police are trying to find the truth behind this case.
