Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee leaders have officially announced that DK Shivakumar will take oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3. The ceremony will take place at 5:15 PM and is a big step in the political life of Shivakumar as he takes the top executive post of the state for the first time.

The announcement was made by KPCC Working President and Rajya Sabha member G.C. Chandrashekar in a press conference. The oath-taking ceremony will be carried out in a simple and dignified manner at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) instead of a large public ceremony, party leaders said.

The decision has been met with great anticipation by Congress workers and supporters in the state. Earlier in the day, there had been talk of holding a grand ceremony on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, where thousands of party workers would be expected. Preparations for a large-scale event had begun, and plans were even being considered to arrange between 10,000 and 15,000 buses to take supporters from different districts to Bengaluru.

At the party, the high command, however, advised against a lavish celebration. The leadership chose to give a modest swearing-in ceremony to avoid inconveniencing the public. The party’s leaders said traffic congestion and disruption in Bengaluru were part of the reason for the decision. Since the ceremony falls during a working week, authorities wanted to ensure that normal city activities would not be adversely affected.

According to party sources, DK Shivakumar will take office on the auspicious Vrischika Lagna at 5:15 PM on June 3. Astrologer Dwarakanath Guruji had suggested June 5, 6, and 7 as good dates for the ceremony. However, after consultations and political considerations, a date of June 3 was finally set for the swearing-in.

The simplified ceremony is also a symbol of restraint and public responsibility. Party leaders stressed the decision was in order to avoid unnecessary expenditure and to avoid a lot of logistical work. Governance and public service take precedence at the top of the list of things the leadership would like to see done right.

G.C. Chandrashekar spoke to the media and said that initially, the party wanted a big public gathering to celebrate Shivakumar's elevation to the Chief Minister's post. But after discussions with senior leaders, they decided that a more modest event would be fitting for the occasion. He stressed that the inconvenience of Bengaluru residents was an important factor while deciding the presentation format of the ceremony.

DK Shivakumar will visit various districts of Karnataka and meet party workers and supporters who made the party's success in the state possible after his swearing-in. Instead of having thousands of supporters in Bengaluru to attend a single event, the new Chief Minister will meet workers across the state, thank them and express his gratitude.

The ceremony will be the beginning of a new chapter in Karnataka politics. Shivakumar's elevation is, to the party supporters, the culmination of years of political experience and organisational work in the Congress party. As he prepares for the state administration, we expect his government to carry out some of his policies and programs in the next few months.

With the date now officially announced, attention is now on the formation of the new cabinet and the course of the incoming administration as Karnataka goes through the process of governance under DK Shivakumar.
