On the eve of India’s 77th Republic Day, Karnataka is set for a tableau that embodies its dual identity, both as an agricultural powerhouse and a world leader in technology. The tableau, officially titled “From Millets to Microchips,” will be a showpiece at New Delhi’s national celebrations and is featured at the prestigious Bharat Parv event.
Hemant M. Nimbalkar, head of the Department of Information and Public Relations, explained in a statement, "Our idea was selected on the basis of Karnataka's ‘balanced development’. In a very competitive selection process the expert committee unanimously approved this as a theme for its relevance to the modern Indian story of self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat).

The Design: A Combination of Soil and Silicon
The tableau serves as a visual timeline, transitioning from the traditional to the futuristic:
Front Section: A bright rising Sun symbolizes the ongoing energy of the state. Karnataka’s leadership in the “Siridhanya” (millet) revolution is depicted in its large, traditional pots overflowing with millets. A farmer family holding a bountiful harvest evokes the spirit of rural power.
Middle Section: The present-day science. Viewers will see a rotating atom model and an AI-powered robot working on a computer. It contains a female scientist with a rocket (a symbol of space-savvy technology), a doctor who uses telemedicine skills, and an agricultural drone in the hands of a woman.
Rear Section: The final segment showcases a huge Microchip tucked among gold-colored circuits. An emblematic robotic face is the centerpiece, solidifying Karnataka’s standing as the leading semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing hub of India.
Selection and Prestige
Karnataka is part of the Republic Day parade, with many accolades in previous years in terms of cultural and historical exhibitions. This year, the state decided on “Millets to Microchips,” over stronger proposals, including tributes to Kittur Rani Chennamma and the floral wealth of the state.
On the other hand, the central government's rotation policy for tableaux means that they will not showcase every state on Kartavya Path each year, but the “Millets to Microchips” float with the Karnataka state will be displayed at Pragati Maidan and the Red Fort (Bharat Parv) from January 26–31. This also makes sure millions of people in the capital can see the inspiring story of how the state is going from earth to stars.
