Google’s ambitious plan to create its biggest campus outside the United States in Hyderabad is still in progress, but not so much as many had hoped.
The company first announced the landmark campus in 2015, in a sign of India, one of its largest markets and a key global engineering centre. But the actual construction on the project started only in 2022 after years of planning, approvals and site preparation.

As of 2026, the sprawling campus is not even halfway complete, as it is a big project. Work is progressing, but the timeline has caught people’s attention because of the gap between the first announcement and the current phase.
The Hyderabad campus could be the largest office of Google outside the USA, and the city will become one of the leading technology and innovation centres in India once completed. Hyderabad is already one of the top development centres for many international tech companies and has been a hot spot for multinational firms with a good workforce, great infrastructure and a good startup ecosystem.
The new campus is expected to have hundreds of employees in engineering, research, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, product development, cybersecurity and business operations. It will also have sustainable architecture, energy-efficient systems and collaborative spaces in line with Google's global campus design philosophy.
The delay does not necessarily mean Google is weakening its commitment to India. Large corporate campuses often take longer than expected due to changing design requirements, regulatory approvals, supply chain disruptions, labour shortages and changing construction priorities. The COVID-19 pandemic and its after-effects impacted infrastructure projects worldwide, and companies had to reassess office requirements as hybrid work models were more prevalent.
Despite the slower pace of construction, Google is expanding its presence in India with engineering, cloud services, AI research and digital initiatives. The Hyderabad campus is also central to the company’s long-term investment plans in India.
When completed, it will be one of India's largest corporate technology campuses, thus reinforcing Hyderabad's position as an international technology hub and strengthening Google's research and development capabilities outside the U.S.
