A tragic incident in Haryana’s Fatehabad district shocked the local community after an Anganwadi worker and her two children were found dead at their home in Mehuwala village.
Police are investigating the reasons behind the deaths and the woman’s family has claimed her marital problems and harassment were very serious. Her husband has been arrested after her brother’s complaint and digital evidence, including a video allegedly taken by the woman before her death, has been examined.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sudesh, who worked as an Anganwadi worker. Her two children were also found dead in the family home. Preliminary information from the police suggests the woman may have caused the deaths of her children before her own death and the exact reasons for that are under investigation, and the case is going to be established by post-mortem analysis, forensic examination, witness testimony and other evidence collected by authorities.
The incident came to light when Sudesh and her two children went missing. According to her brother Praveen, Sudesh’s husband, Sandeep Machra, called him on August 6 and advised him that Sudesh and the children could not be found. Family members began searching for them. Their bodies were later found in a tank of water in the family home; the deaths led police to investigate.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. The medical examination will provide crucial evidence for the causes and circumstances of the deaths. A big part of the investigation is about a video that was found on Sudesh’s phone. Sub-Inspector Vijender Pilania of Bhattu police station said that the phone contained a video of the woman before she died. The recording is being investigated by the police, he said. Family members also alleged that Sudesh had uploaded a social media reel before the incident in which she talked about problems her marriage was going through.
Sudesh’s brother Praveen claims that his sister had been in mental and emotional distress because of her husband’s problems. This is because Sandeep’s drug addiction and harassment had been the reason behind Sudesh’s problems, he says. Police filed a case against Sandeep after Praveen’s complaint under Sections 103(1) and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The allegations will have to be probed and taken into account in the course of the investigation and judicial process.
Sudesh and Sandeep had married in 2014, in what relatives described as a love marriage, and they had two children. Family members have claimed Sudesh had been having problems in her marital life before the incident. Investigators will look for any previous complaints, communications, social media posts or other such evidence that could shed light on what happened before those deaths.
Police were also looking into the whereabouts of other members of the household around the incident. Sandeep was reportedly away from the house when the deaths occurred, according to investigators. He had gone to a railway station to distribute drinking water to passengers. His mother was in Sirsa to seek medical help. Police are now investigating all these aspects to establish a clear timeline and to figure out who was in or near the house at the time of the deaths.
The recovery of the supposed video could well help investigators and may offer some valuable information, but its contents are important and must be looked at along with other evidence.
