Heavy rain has started pouring again over certain parts of Bengaluru after dark clouds covered the city since the afternoon, alarming citizens who had been waiting for days, following heavy rain that had wreaked havoc and killed several people in the capital of Karnataka.
Rainfall was more intense in some areas, like Majestic, Shivajinagar, KR Market and the central region of Bengaluru during evening hours, weather officials said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of the city over the next couple of hours.
The rain is only exacerbating worries and reawakening fear among people as Bengaluru has seen flooding, traffic chaos, downed trees, pools of water and damage to infrastructure as a result of too much rain. Last week, there were reports of 10 people dead in rain-related incidents throughout the city and around the region.
Heavy afternoon overcast clouds have been covering Bengaluru since the afternoon, that have led to thunderstorm activity. Both Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts will continue to receive their sporadic rainfall and thunderstorms for the coming days, the authorities said. Strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph, as well as lightning and thunder activity to the southern interior of Karnataka until May 8, the IMD also cautioned.
Several districts will see a steady drip or storm in the night. Low-floor residents are warned to be vigilant to avoid localised flooding and a build-up of water. Road and the slippery roadside during busy evening periods have also slowed them down, reported the motorists. Traffic in Bengaluru and heavy rain would presumably slow significantly.

Critical streets and linkways are expected to suffer severe traffic congestion across the city, especially in waterlogging areas devastated by monsoons; this is also likely in the general majority. The authorities are warning commuters to be mindful to plan and avoid unnecessary travel around thunderstorms and when it is raining.
Both emergency services and civic officials are reportedly pre-monitoring sensitive areas to avoid significant disruptions. It is also expected to remain humid and unstable for the next several days. Meteorological officials said Bengaluru can record a maximum temperature of about 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of about 21 degrees Celsius despite sporadic precipitation.
Videos and photos of rain-strewn roads, pitch-black skies and drenched streets have proliferated on social media already. Residents of the city welcomed the cooler temperatures they’d been experiencing since the earlier heat, but some said they have continued to stress the flooding problems and bad drainage systems in the city and its surrounding areas.
They reason there are often thunderstorms in the evening in Karnataka, experts add, because moisture is circulating and the ambience in southern India can be unsteady. Residents are cautioned by an administration member not to cover themselves behind trees or by electric poles when lightning is transmitting and to be on the lookout for official weather alerts.
Those in flood-prone areas have been advised to get ready if the rain does come. As more rain hits, civic offices will also make sure to continue their thorough watch for waterlogging and falling branches, and road complications and emergency circumstances in and outside Bengaluru.
