The interruption results from major infrastructure work near the Gottigere Water Reservoir as part of the ambitious Cauvery Stage 5 project. Specifically, engineers are going to be installing Electromagnetic Flow (EMF) meters. These will be crucial in monitoring and regulating the high-volume water flow to the city’s extending peripheries which is expanding.

Timing Of The Emergency

The water outage is anticipated to last precisely 24 hours. Residents should note the window when this is done: start time: 6:00 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2026. end time: 6:00 AM, Friday, February 27, 2026. Supply will be gradually replenished during Friday morning as pressure in the pipelines begins to release when the work is finalized.

Affected Areas

The repair works will affect a wide swath of the city, more particularly in the South and East zones, which are sensitive to the Cauvery Stage 5 infrastructure. All of these zones and all of their adjacent communities would be completely isolated;

BWSSB Official Statement

"The installation of EMF meters is a necessary step to ensure the efficiency and longevity of the Cauvery Stage 5 supply line. We appreciate the inconvenience that will create, but ultimately this upgrade will improve water management and lead to less leakage for these communities,” he said. The Board has apologized and has mobilized teams to complete work in a 24-hour window.

Key Tips for Residents

Residents should follow these in the short run because it is not a very long disruption:

  • Storing Water: Make sure you filled all storage tanks and buckets and containers by Wednesday night (February 25).
  • Use it Wisely: Use water for the basic functions of cooking and drinking just during the 24 hours period. Steer clear of non-essential activities such as cleaning cars or watering gardens.
