A major accident was narrowly avoided on the busy 100 Feet Road of Indiranagar late Thursday night when a drunk driver, who lost control, crashed into a popular restaurant. The event, which took place around 11:35 pm, was filmed and showed pedestrians escaping by mere inches.
The driver, 42‑year‑old Derrick, was speeding down from 18th Main Road toward 100 Feet Road in a Skoda. Authorities said he was drunk while driving at that time. Derrick’s vehicle, unable to negotiate a scheduled left turn due to its speed and intoxication, mounted the central divider, hit a parked two‑wheeler before striking the restaurant’s exterior wall.
The shocking footage showed how close the car was as it neared striking pedestrians, who were walking nearby. Little injury was involved, though witnesses were left shaken and a case being laid bare where rash driving in densely populated areas of the city leads to dangerous consequences.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police moved quickly, seizing the car and registering a case of rash and negligent driving. Derrick has been detained, and formal legal notice has been served. They said that drunk driving is an extremely serious crime that not only puts the driver on the line but also people who are innocent on the roads.
Indiranagar residents said they felt relief and anger about what happened in the incident. Hundreds jumped onto social media to broadcast the CCTV footage, insisting on tough enforcement of the drunk driving laws. Local shopkeepers and restaurant owners were also vocal about unsafe conditions and that the scene was too busy as 100 Feet Road is a busy hub with heavy foot traffic, especially at night. They called on authorities to continue patrolling and put up stronger barriers to reduce the likelihood of a similar accident.
This case also raises more general issues about road safety in Bengaluru. Drunk driving is still a real problem, after repeated awareness campaigns. If such behavior is curbed or at least halted, experts say, it is possible to do so by introducing stiffer penalties, routine breathalyzer checks and better public awareness. Indiranagar is known for its nightlife, and late‑night traffic with intoxicated drivers frequently makes it prime ground for a possible accident.
The episode is an example of why responsible driving is crucial. Never to drink and drive, police enforcement will be more strict and urban safety efforts around the city will be more robust, including speed breakers, pedestrian zones to save lives.
Luck can indeed save a tragedy in Indiranagar, however the disaster clearly demonstrates the desperate necessity for vigilance and accountability. In a city such as Bengaluru where the traffic of busy roads and busy nightlife culture meet the street, the safety of the streets is essential and will need to be at the forefront of the agenda of public safety to avoid close calls becoming catastrophes.
