A major tragedy was averted at Gokarna beach when lifeguards rescued five people, including four students and a teacher, from drowning in the sea. The incident occurred when a group of 39 visitors from Shivamogga’s Meelgatta Government High School had come to Gokarna for a trip.
Despite repeated warnings from lifeguard staff, some students and a teacher entered the water. Strong waves struck them, pulling them into deeper waters and putting their lives at risk. In a matter of moments, panic spread as five individuals struggled against the current.
The rescued included Class 10 students Niyaz Ahmad, Mohammad Jilal, Akash, and one of their teachers. Witnesses reported that the group ignored safety instructions, which led to the dangerous situation.
Acting swiftly, lifeguards on duty jumped into the sea and managed to bring all five safely back to shore. Their timely intervention prevented what could have been a fatal accident. Tourists and locals present at the beach praised the courage and quick response of the lifeguard team.
Authorities emphasized that lifeguards had already cautioned the group about the risks of swimming in rough waters. The incident highlights the importance of following safety guidelines, especially during school trips and group excursions.
The teacher and students were given immediate care after being rescued, and all are reported to be safe. The rest of the school group was kept away from the water following the incident.
This rescue has once again underlined the critical role lifeguards play in ensuring the safety of visitors at popular beaches like Gokarna. Their vigilance and bravery saved five lives, turning a potentially tragic day into a story of relief and gratitude.
