A Special Sessions Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases at HACA Bhavan in Hyderabad has convicted a 45-year-old man in a 2019 child rape case and sentenced him to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI). The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict.
The convicted man has been identified as Mohammed Mohsin, who was a petrol pump helper at the time of the offence.
Conviction in 2019 Case
The case dates back to 2019 when the accused sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl, police said yesterday. The police filed a case under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After the investigation was completed, the police filed a chargesheet before the Special POCSO Court. During the trial, the prosecution provided witness testimonies and documentary evidence to establish the charges against the accused.
After weighing the evidence on record, the Special Sessions Judge found the accused guilty and convicted him for the offence.
Sentence Awarded
Mohsin was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of ₹10,000. The punishment is in line with the seriousness of sexual crime against children under Indian law.
The POCSO Act establishes a legal framework for the protection of children from sexual offences and ensures that such cases are tried through designated Special Courts for speedy disposal.
