The Indian women’s hockey team continued to be dominant in the Asian Games 2026 as they won 17-1 over Indonesia in the second Pool B match on Monday. After opening the tournament with a 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan, India again produced an attacking masterclass to raise its goal tally to 36 goals in two games.
India's latest victory in Kakamigahara, Japan, came thanks to hat-tricks from Deepika Sehrawat, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal and Navneet Kaur. The three forwards combined for nine goals as India's attacking unit found gaps in the Indonesian defence. Deepika, who had scored eight goals in India's opening match, added another three to her tournament tally.
Deepika, Rutuja And Navneet Score Hat-Tricks
Deepika opened India's lead in the eighth minute with a penalty corner. She went on to score two more goals in the 28th and 40th minutes, all three of her goals coming from penalty corners.
Rutuja Dadaso Pisal also had a successful performance, with three goals in open play. She struck in the 15th, 20th and 38th minutes as India continued to put in a big advantage.
Navneet Kaur completed her hat-trick with goals in the 35th, 56th and 57th minutes. Her goals helped India sustain the pressure in the second half and saw them end up with 17 goals for the team.
The hat-tricks were not only accomplished by the three players who scored hat-tricks. Sunelita Toppo, Lalremsiami and Sakshi Rana scored two goals each, while captain Salima Tete and Ishika Chaudhary also got on the scoresheet.
India Lead 9-0 At Half-Time
India took control early on in the match and kept up the pressure as the game progressed. Deepika’s opening goal with Sunelita Toppo doubled the lead in the first half and Lalremsiami and Rutuja added further goals.
India's attacking momentum continued in the second quarter. Rutuja scored another goal, and Sakshi Rana and Deepika also scored. Sunelita then scored her second as India went into the half-time break with a commanding 9-0 lead.
Indonesia was able to establish a breakthrough in the third quarter when Innes Aditiya converted a penalty corner in the 32nd minute. It was Indonesia’s only goal of the match.
India reacted quickly, with Salima Tete delivering the momentum before the Indian forwards kept adding to the score. India had 14-1 at the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw India add three more goals to complete the 17-1 victory. India had two wins from two matches and strengthened its position in Pool B.

The most striking statistic from India's first two matches is the sheer number of goals scored. India started its campaign with a 19-0 victory over Uzbekistan and followed it up with the 17-1 victory over Indonesia.
That means the Indian women's team has scored 36 goals and conceded just one across its first two games. Deepika has been particularly prolific, with 11 goals in the tournament so far after scoring eight against Uzbekistan and three against Indonesia.
The performances have also shown the depth of India's attacking options. Deepika, Navneet and Rutuja have got more attention for their hat-tricks, but many other players have scored goals in the two matches.

India's Pool B campaign continues on Wednesday against Thailand. The Indian team will carry the momentum of its two big wins into the next match as it continues its Asian Games campaign.
India will try and contend for the women's hockey gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The team won its only Asian Games women's hockey gold in 1982 and has since won two silver and four bronze medals including bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
The first two matches of the tournament have been a strong attacking start but the competition will be more demanding as India progresses. The team will need to remain focused on defence but also create chances to score in the later stages of the tournament.
