Hyderabad police recently uncovered a disturbing hoard operation of LPG cylinders. In a graveyard in Banjara Hills, officials seized 414 cylinders worth just over Rs 21.88 lakh. This brings serious matters of public safety and the phenomenon of black marketers in short supply to the fore of public awareness.
The Commissioner’s Task Force (Jubilee Hills Zone) and Banjara Hills Police conducted a raid based on intelligence inputs at that time on 30 March 2026. Hundreds of LPG cylinders were found in the graveyard. But with the cylinders, police also seized 11 vehicles which were being used to transport the stock.
The central accused in this is Mohd. Aamir (42), who runs Metro Gas Agency. According to police reports, Aamir had taken cylinders out of the official supply chain and stored them illegally at the graveyard. He was supported by nine individuals, all of whom have been arrested. He planned to peddle cylinders at elevated prices after months of long-running lack of LPG due to disrupted supply.
Storing LPG cylinders in such unsafe conditions was extremely hazardous—it could easily set the site on fire and explode. The graveyard was not equipped to handle hazardous materials, making the situation extremely dangerous for nearby residents. Not only does illegal hoarding have the potential to exacerbate the problem, but it also exploits consumers who rely on LPG to cook meals.
The police have registered a case under the Essential Commodities Act and other relevant laws. Authorities will be taking strong action against those involved in black marketing and hoarding of essential items. The cylinders and vehicles have been seized, and further investigation is underway.
This incident is indicative of illegal hoarding, and there should be measures in place to ensure that people understand that black marketing is illegal and to watch for suspicious activities during supply shortages. The Hyderabad Police acted swiftly to prevent a potential disaster and sent a strong message to others about the importance of fair distribution of essential products to citizens.
