This significant move which joins the continued reform agenda of bolstering welfare programs for defence families saw the Indian Army in India enter into a Memorandum of Understanding. It serves the mutual benefit of the education of wards of Army personnel and the provision of more advanced medical care to serving and retired soldiers, as well as their dependents. It stands as a testament to the two's collective commitment to honour the sacrifices of armed forces personnel and to support families to achieve academic success and medical treatment.
Education Benefits
Amongst the key provisions of the MoU is the granting of scholarships for meritorious applicants to MGUMST. Students accepted into Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Mahatma Gandhi Dental College will receive a ₹1,00,000 annual scholarship. The financial assistance is meant to ease the burden of professional education and guide the high achieving students of Army families in the discipline of medicine and dentistry. Additionally, students will also be entitled to receive a 33% scholarship on their tuition fees for the allied health science courses under MGUMST. The MoU provides young aspirants with means not only of getting into crucial healthcare areas, but also greater possibilities in career paths for them to pursue further education.
Medical Support
MGUMST will provide free medical and surgical management services, excluding the cost of medicines and consumables, for members of the military and their relatives. This type of help is important in those cases where problems are not covered by the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) or where specialized treatment is unavailable from Defence medical units.
A Step Forward for Welfare
This collaboration consolidates advancements in education with the quality of healthcare to ensure the long-term health of all Army personnel. It is a great acknowledgment, and a little practical assistance to the army.
