School Van Hits Divider in Telco

According to Navbharat Times, the Tata Winger was carrying children of Chinmaya School when it went out of control and climbed onto the divider. The front part of the vehicle was damaged and the windshield was broken and the entire vehicle was damaged, said officials.

The crash was so bad the children began to panic, they said. People living nearby rushed to the scene after hearing the impact and helped get the injured students out of the van.

Injured Students Taken to Tata Motors Hospital

The injured children were taken to Tata Motors Hospital for medical treatment. Navbharat Times reported that around 15 children were injured and that the driver and some children suffered serious injuries.

In the meantime, another local report provided a different preliminary figure, saying that about 15 to 17 children were injured and that the driver and two children were seriously injured. Because the reports were issued shortly after the crash, the final number and severity of injuries might change as medical assessments continue.

Preliminary Accounts Differ on Cause

The cause of the accident is still not fully known. Local residents told Navbharat Times about a car passing very close to the school van, the driver looked towards the car and lost his balance and fell into the divider. This account is still an eyewitness version and has not been verified as the official reason.

A separate local report also mentioned brake failure as a possible problem and said police were investigating the vehicle’s technical condition, documents, fitness certificate and other factors.

Police Investigation Underway

Police arrived at the accident scene and began investigating the reasons for the collision. Mechanical failure, driver error, road conditions or other factors are expected to be factors in the crash, investigators will determine.

The incident underlined once again the importance of safety checks for vehicles transporting schoolchildren. But the true reason and responsibility should be determined only after an investigation.
