Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the updated Baleno facelift in India on 5 September 2026. The new Baleno will be the first fresh version since the second-generation hatchback was launched in 2022 and many people are hoping to see it in the market with the latest design changes, adding new features and possibly a few improvements to the powertrain portfolio. The launch date is set for September 5 and the new Baleno facelift is one of the big new car launches of the month.
The Baleno has been Maruti Suzuki’s best product in the premium hatchback space for quite a long time. The facelift will retain the familiar overall shape and make a few visual changes to make the car look fresher and more modern. Test vehicles seen before the launch have shown some design changes to the front end (new grille and front bumper). The car will also get alloy wheel and lighting changes.
At the back, the changes will be fairly subtle. The facelift will have a revised tail-lamp detail as well as changes to the rear bumper and tailgate. Rather than making an entirely new design, Maruti Suzuki is going for an evolutionary approach and the Baleno will still be familiar but has a much more contemporary appearance.
Changes to the cabin are expected in addition to some features and trim. The updated version will likely have a revised upholstery and more ambient lighting. There has also been speculation that Maruti Suzuki could introduce a sunroof but the exact launch date and variant placement will be determined. The same equipment like the nine-inch infotainment screen, heads-up display and automatic climate control can be maintained for the higher variants.
Safety and driver assistance technology could be another major talking point. Some reports suggest that the new Baleno could even have Level 1 ADAS, which could be very good and make it stand out among the premium hatchbacks in its price category. Other safety features are six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. The 360-degree camera could also be retained in the new model. But customers will have to wait for Maruti Suzuki’s official variant-wise list of equipment for every feature.
Under the bonnet, the Baleno facelift will likely come with the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine might continue to generate around 90hp and be coupled with a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT gearbox. A CNG version will also be available with the new hatchback.
One interesting possibility would be a factory-fitted CNG-AMT combination. If so, this could be a good thing as Maruti Suzuki has already introduced a few CNG vehicles but has never had the factory CNG setup for automatic transmission in its factory. A facelift could potentially offer this combination to customers with the running-cost benefits of CNG as an option.
Pricing will be a big point when the Baleno facelift is unveiled. The current Baleno is priced in the ₹5.99 lakh ex-showroom range and we assume that the facelift could fetch a reasonable price for all the new features and equipment. Some estimates place the new model in the ₹6 lakh to ₹9.50 lakh range, but final prices and variant-wise pricing will only be clear when Maruti Suzuki officially announces them.
The new Baleno will be up against well-known rivals like Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza in the space of compact SUVs and other body styles. That will be Maruti Suzuki’s main focus for the Baleno facelift and the company will likely use new technologies and redesign the design in order to make the hatchback more attractive to those who want a high-end car that doesn’t go into the SUV market.
With the launch date set for September, the wait is almost over. The real unveiling will reveal which of the features and mechanical improvements will be made to production. For buyers who want a premium hatchback, the 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift could become a familiar package with redesigned design, more technology and possibly greater convenience.
