The Viral Video and Public Outcry

The video, which started going around on Jan. 19, 2026, shows a worker standing within a big tray of dough, which he rubs on his feet a crucial part of making phini, a traditional Rajasthani sweet composed of flour and ghee. The video prompted protests by citizens, who were swiftly able to tag local health authorities on the footage of the action, with many calling upon immediate steps to address a clear breach of food safety standards.

Health Department takes swift action

In reply to the public outcry, the Jodhpur Health Department and Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) conducted a massive raid on the site in the Tanawada area, referred to as Jodhpur Sweet Corner. At the inspection, there was a stark spectacle of neglect. But not only was the production area filthy, officials also discovered a cache of adulterated, expired products.

  • Stock Destruction: Law enforcement seized and destroyed 110 kg of newly prepared phini suspected to have been made through the so-called "feet-kneading" unhygienic process immediately.
  • Stock Loss and Damage: Outside of the sweets, 180 liters of expired cold drinks and milk were found by the team and destroyed while they were stored for sale.
  • Lab Sampling: In the laboratory, samples were collected from milk solids (mawa) and butter at the premises which were sent to the state laboratory for chemical analysis for further adulteration.

Health Hazards - Zero Tolerance

The CMHO had declared the compromise on public health to be “unacceptable” and “criminal in nature.” The department of health has declared the action immediately to suspend all operations of the unit and is now in the process of cancelling the trade license.

"We have ordered strict legal action against the owners of the unit under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Public health cannot be toyed with for profit," said a senior health official during the raid.

Warning to Local Vendors

This has led the Jodhpur government to initiate a city-wide hygiene campaign. As festival season goes on, the authorities have given warnings to all sweet shops and snack-making units to follow stringent hygiene measures that require use of gloves, hairnets, and mechanized kneading equipment.
