A meeting between senior AICC (All India Congress Committee) leaders and the newly appointed district Congress presidents in Karnataka will be held at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office on Queens Road in Bengaluru on Monday, 21st November. This is to focus on the strengthening of the party organization and better coordination across the district and grassroots level.
The AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala are holding discussions with the newly appointed district Congress presidents. KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad and several other senior party leaders are also present.
The discussion is on organisational matters, and the leadership interacts with around 35 newly appointed district Congress presidents. The meeting comes shortly after the Congress high command announced new presidents for 35 District Congress Committees (DCCs) across Karnataka as part of its organisational restructuring.
According to reports about the recent appointments, the new district presidents were selected through consultations and organisational reviews conducted as part of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan. The exercise is aimed at strengthening the party structure at the district level and subsequently at lower organisational levels.
The current meeting will provide the newly appointed district chiefs with advice on their roles and the party’s organisational priorities. We are particularly interested in developing the Congress network from the grassroots level and better communication between district units and the state leadership.
The importance of organisational strengthening is also evident from recent meetings of Congress leadership. The party is conducting organisational reviews and appointing new functionaries in several states. The Congress official website lists K.C. Venugopal as the party’s General Secretary in charge of organisation and Randeep Singh Surjewala as General Secretary in charge of Karnataka and Gujarat.
The appointment of new Karnataka district presidents was announced earlier this month. The new appointments cover district units across the state, Bengaluru-related units, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kalaburagi, Ballari-region districts and other parts of Karnataka.
The KPCC office meeting is also significant from the organisational point of view, as the newly appointed district leaders start taking over their respective units. The discussions will discuss how they can collaborate better between party workers, boost district-level activities, and develop a greater connection with the workers as well at the local level.
The emphasis on grassroots organisation is also part of a larger campaign to build a more structured party structure. Previous discussions about the selection of district Congress presidents had involved plans to develop District Congress Committees and then to fill other organisational positions at the district, block and booth levels.
As the new district presidents now meet with the AICC and state leaders, the Congress leadership is using the session to discuss the functioning of district units and the responsibilities of the newly appointed office-bearers.
Details of the decisions and organisational directions that have been made from the meeting are expected after the talks are concluded.
