According to rainfall data released for the morning of October 1, Bailur in Chamarajanagara district recorded the highest rainfall in the state among the listed stations and received 71 mm. This rainfall was part of a broader spell that affected several districts in southern and central Karnataka.

Bangarpete in Kolar district had the second highest rainfall at 62.2 mm. The heavy rainfall in Kolar district was followed by Yelahanka in Bengaluru Urban with 59.8 mm.

We can see that the rainfall amounts also show the intensity of the weather system in various parts of the state, and particularly in southern Karnataka. During the observation period, some stations recorded rainfall of more than 30 mm.

Here are the top 10 rainfall stations reported for the morning of October 1:

  1. Bailur, Chamarajanagara – 71 mm.
  2. Bangarpete, Kolar – 62.2 mm.
  3. Yelahanka, Bengaluru Urban – 59.8 mm.
  4. Ramanathapura, Hassan – 54.8 mm.
  5. Belur, Hassan – 43.2 mm.
  6. Bannuru, Mysuru – 41.8 mm.
  7. Hoskote, Bengaluru Rural – 40.6 mm.
  8. Thopanahalli, Kolar – 40 mm.
  9. Konanuru, Hassan – 33.6 mm.
  10. Dodda Kawalande, Mysuru – 32.8 mm.

Hassan district had three locations in the top 10, with Ramanathapura recording 54.8 mm, Belur recording 43.2 mm and Konanuru recording 33.6 mm.

Kolar was also present, with Bangarpete recording 62.2 mm and Thopanahalli receiving 40 mm. Mysuru is the only city with two stations, with Bannuru recording 41.8 mm and Dodda Kawalande receiving 32.8 mm.

That rainfall was also in the Bengaluru area. Yelahanka recorded 59.8 mm and Bengaluru Urban station was the third in the list of the cities of Bengaluru at third place. Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural had 40.6 mm.

The distribution of rainfall across the districts indicates the spell was not restricted to a single location. Moderate to heavy rainfall was experienced in a number of areas, with the highest station hitting 70 mm.

Rainfall of this intensity can temporarily impact road conditions, traffic movement, and low-lying areas, especially in urban areas. Heavy showers in Bengaluru can lead to waterlogging and traffic slowing down on roads and even worse traffic levels in areas where drainage capacity is temporarily exceeded.

The new figures are a snapshot of the rainfall recorded at the stations and cannot be interpreted as the whole district rainfall. Rainfall can vary greatly between neighbouring areas based on weather conditions.

With the southwest monsoon season in the midst of its last phase in Karnataka, rainfall activity is still being closely tracked. In addition, rain will also be an important part of the October rainfall pattern for agriculture, reservoirs and groundwater in different parts of the state.

The 71 mm recorded at Bailur was the highest among the stations listed for the morning of October 1, followed by Bangarpete and Yelahanka. The widespread rainfall in southern Karnataka has once again highlighted the continuing weather activity across the state as October begins.
