Most of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, has been predicted to have heavy rain in the next few days, says the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
It might be so drenched with thunderstorms and winds that storm officials have allocated heavy rains for districts throughout South Interior Karnataka, that many are going to have to be on their guard after this storm, which is being called, by the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
But Bengaluru could be subject to cloudy weather with moderate rain later at night or in the evening. Thunderstorms will also be in the city for the next four days. Weather officers said the top temperature in Bengaluru, where it has remained at the top level of 34.8°C till now, will fall to around 23.8°C, but rainfall will likely be heavy in places like Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Davanagere and surrounding districts as well as in neighbouring districts.
Officials also cautioned that some districts could see thunderstorms and lightning during the nocturnal hours. So it will be raining along the coastlines of Karnataka with blustery winds rolling 30 to 40 kmph over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The Uttara Kannada district, on the other hand, is not expecting so much of the weather intensity.
Meteorologists predict that Mangaluru and Udupi are projected to have temperatures exceeding 33°C despite numerous rainy days. Unrestrained weather will be felt in the North Karnataka districts too. Other parts of the city are hot with thunderstorms and high winds, and the hot weather could become settled in some urban areas and others.
The IMD also estimates thunderstorm activity in the form of 40 through 50 kmph wind speeds for Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Koppal districts. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has also given a yellow alert for the May 15-16 area in the southern interior of Karnataka province.
According to official data, the area currently receives between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm of rain. The KSNDMC has said to the official account of X, advise its citizens to take precautionary measures and "read the local weather report." In low-lying areas and areas near flooding, local authorities have encouraged residents to avoid the heaviest rainfall-induced travel.
They have been warned that potential traffic jams, waterlogging and time-sensitive inconveniences could be caused by thunderstorms and blustery wind. Recent rain comes after intense summer heat in certain regions of Karnataka over the last few weeks. The change in weather is a short-term respite from rises in temperature, but officials remain wary of heavy downpours in those vulnerable regions.
