The dramatic rescue operation was launched on Tuesday at the beautiful Mallalli Falls of Kodagu district of Karnataka after a group of college students became stranded in a dangerous part of the waterfall. Witnesses said the students crossed the fencing near the waterfall and illegally entered a dangerous area near the middle of the cascading falls. The group was able to reach a rocky spot in the rushing water at first. But as the water flow intensified, they got trapped and were unable to return safely.

Students took shelter on a rock in the middle of the waterfall, and powerful currents surrounded them, putting them in a very dangerous situation. Onlookers saw the danger and called the Somwarpet Fire and Emergency Services Station immediately.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and conducted a rescue operation with assistance from residents who knew the terrain. The rescue team quickly got the stranded students back and took them to safety in what witnesses described as a cinematic and brave rescue.

The rescue required a lot of coordination as the slippery rocks, strong water currents, and difficult terrain around the waterfall all warranted the rescue. All the stranded students were rescued, and no injuries occurred, despite the conditions.

In the monsoon season, when waterfalls have high water discharge rates, the incident shows the danger of tourists at popular tourist spots ignoring safety warnings. Authorities have warned visitors to stay away from barriers or enter areas not permitted for them around waterfalls, rivers, and reservoirs, as water levels can rise rapidly.

Mallalli Falls, one of Kodagu’s most popular tourist attractions, draws thousands of visitors every year because of its breathtaking natural beauty. But during the rainy season, the waterfall becomes significantly more dangerous due to powerful currents and slippery surfaces. Safety barricades and warning signs are in place to prevent people from entering high-risk areas.

Authorities are now going to once more call on tourists to adhere to safety precautions and work with security personnel to prevent such incidents again. Tourists should enjoy the beauty of the sights only from designated viewing areas and not take unnecessary risks for pictures or adventure.

The successful rescue is a reminder that a single mistake of negligence can quickly escalate into a life-threatening emergency and shows how quickly residents and emergency workers responded to save lives.
