Five people were injured after a DJ vehicle carrying participants in a Ganesha immersion procession reportedly came into contact with an electric wire in Virajpet, Kodagu district last night, the state police said. The incident took place when the procession was going on with the participants, who were on decorated platforms, causing panic, the police said.

There were five people who were injured and two of them were seriously injured. The injured were immediately taken to nearby medical centers for treatment.
Among those seriously injured are reportedly Basavaraju from Hubballi-Dharwad and another person. Both were sent to a hospital in Mysuru for further treatment, as their condition was considered critical, the hospital in Mysuru confirmed. The other three injured people were admitted to the district hospital in Madikeri where they received treatment.

A major tragedy was narrowly avoided as emergency assistance was provided to the injured. Two people were found unconscious at the spot following the electric shock. They were then transported for medical treatment and the critically injured were taken to a hospital in Mysuru.

Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna also visited the hospital after the incident. He enquired about the condition of the injured and spoke to doctors treating the victims. The visit came as authorities and medical teams continued to monitor those who suffered electric shocks.
